K-Pop Sunbaes ~ What are they doing? (Part 4 ~ 2008)

(Hangul: 다비치) is a South Korean pop-ballad duo that consists of Lee Haeri (이해리) and Kang Minkyung(강민경). The duo was formed in 2008 by Mnet Media. Davichi was derived from the word “Dabichi” which means the light to shine over the world, illustrating their voices to be spread over the world, explained by Lee Haeri during one of the episodes of Pops In Seoul.

Once again, another group I heard of through Eat Your Kimchi. I forget which song it was but I did like it, I just never looked into it more than that one song.

(/ˈʃn/ shy-nee; Korean: 샤이니; Japanese: シャイニー; stylized as SHINee) is a South Koreancontemporary boy group formed by S.M. Entertainment in 2008. The group consists of Onew, Jonghyun, Key,Minho, and Taemin. They made their debut on May 25, 2008 on SBS’s Inkigayo with their single, “Replay”.

Since their debut, Shinee has released seven full-length albums (four in Korean language and three in Japanese language), five mini-albums, three live album and various Japanese singles as well as Japanese remakes of their Korean releases. They have also won many awards, held three concert tours and starred in their own reality shows. Shinee is considered to be a fashion icon having started the “Shinee Trend” and are known for their highly synchronized and complex dancing

The first kpop group I fell in love with after hearing one song. My favorite song is “Hello”, but I love many of their other songs, including one of their new releases, “View”. I can’t actually remember how I heard their song but I think it was through, Eat Your Kimchi You Tube channel. I think it was because I heard “Ring Ding Dong” and I looked up their songs….my memory is a little fuzzy on that account.

Anyways, they are one of the groups whose music I love to play because it makes you want to dance and I love watching them dance because of the intricate choreography that they display. But I can’t say I am a real fan. I think I came during the time they are on hiatus and I only learned of a few of their songs, and whenever they come out with an album I’m not dying to get it. I just consider myself a fan on the same level as Big Bang. I like their music but I don’t play it over and over again. I really also like that JongHyun and Taemin have made solo albums. MinHo does acting but I don’t really consider him a good actor. He did well in a few dramas, but I would still consider him a singer.

(Korean: 투에이엠) is a South Korean boy group under JYP Entertainment, consisting of Jo Kwon, Lee Changmin,Lim Seulong and Jeong Jinwoon. It was one of the two subgroups split from the eleven-member boy band One Day, the other being 2PM. They officially debuted on July 11, 2008[1] on KBS’s Music Bank, performing the song “This Song”. They won their first Mutizen at Inkigayo on February 7, 2010 with “Can’t Let You Go Even If I Die”.

I heard that they were once a part of 2PM, but I’m not sure what the story is behind it all. I don’t think I even know any of their songs.

(Hangul: 투피엠) is a South Korean idol group managed by JYP Entertainment. The current members are Jun. K (formerly known as Junsu), Nichkhun, Taecyeon, Wooyoung, Junho and Chansung. Former leader Jay Parkofficially left the group in early 2010.

The members of 2PM started when Korean musician Park Jin-young formed an eleven-member band known as One Day. Eventually the band was split into 2PM, and a similar but independent group known as 2AM. 2PM debuted with the song “10 Jeom Manjeome 10 Jeom” (10점 만점에 10점, lit. “10 Points Out of 10 Points”), which showcased their acrobatic dance styles.[1] They achieved their first number 1 single with “Again & Again”. Both singles featured on their first studio album, The First Album 1:59PM, released in 2009. The band went on to release another Korean album, known as Hands Up, in 2011. They made their Japanese debut later that year withRepublic of 2PM. After more than a year, the group returned in 2013 with their third studio album Grown. In early September 2014, 2PM returned with their fourth studio album Go Crazy. On 15 June 2015, 2PM made a comeback with their fifth studio album No.5.

Now, I have heard of 2Pm, only because Taecyeon have been on Korean Variety Show – Running Man. I think he was also in a drama, I don’t know which one, but he is quite popular. But I also know some of 2PM’s songs.

(Korean: 유키스, Japanese: ユーキス) is a South Korean boy band formed by NH Media in 2008. Their name is an acronym, standing for Ubiquitous Korean International Idol Super Star. The group consists of Soohyun, Eli, Kiseop, Kevin, Hoon, AJ and Jun.  Their breakthrough hit was Man Man Ha Ni (2009) from their EP Conti UKISS. U-KISS is known for their international popularity, especially in Latin America where they have conducted various tours. They released their first full-length album Only One on February 3, 2010. In September 2011, U-KISS released their second full-length album, NEVERLAND. They made their formal debut in Japan in 2011 with the release of the single “Tick Tack“.  The second single is entitled “Forbidden Love” while their first Japanese full-length album was A Shared Dream (2012). Since their debut, the group has released three full-length albums, seven extended plays and various singles. The group also participated in various TV reality shows and films.

OMG! What do I NOT know about this group?….Probably just their birthdays and blood type. I came across U-Kiss thanks to another fan and also Eat Your Kimchi. There is a fan I know that is also a fan of Lee JoonGi, who told us her fan story of how she met him when he was in L.A. So I got to know her and she told me about U-KISS. Somehow I think she was the one that directed me to EYK and the first song I heard was “Tick Tack” in Japanese. Simon and Martina was doing their Kpop review and in the video they said that they weren’t going to review Japanese songs anymore by Korean kpop groups. So that is how I found out about them and I fell in love with the group and have been a loyal fan since then.

I came right at the time that two of their members left and were replaced with two new members. I have the majority of their albums, both Korean and Japanese, on every electronic device that I own. I haven’t been able to buy any of their albums though, unless it is from Itunes, which actually list all of their Korean albums, however, I would also like to legally download their Japanese albums. In the end, when I get the funds, I buy a physical album one at a time. My favorite album is “Neverland” and I think it will continue that way for a while.
